تحدث جون ستونز مدافع مانشستر سيتي عقب الفوز على تشيلسي في منافسات الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، وأكد أن فريقه لديه فرصة للقتال على اللقب في نهاية الموسم.

وفاز مانشستر سيتي على تشيلسي بهدف دون مقابل، ويحتل المركز الثاني خلف المتصدر آرسنال بفارق 5 نقاط.

وقال ستونز لقناة سكاي سبورتس: “إنها ثلاث نقاط كبيرة بالنسبة لنا بعد ذلك اليوم، كان الشعور السائد في ذلك الوقت أننا أسقطنا نقطتين (أمام إيفرتون) وأردنا تصحيح الأمر اليوم، الطريقة التي لعبنا بها بشكل خاص في الشوط الثاني كانت رائعة”.

Damien Wright, the Victoria fast bowler, has announced his retirement from Australian first-class cricket. Wright was part of the Australian first-class circuit for 15 years since his debut for Tasmania in 1997-98. He’s been part of three of the last four Sheffield Shield-winning teams, for Tasmania in 2006-07 and twice for Victoria, where he moved to in 2008-09. He joined Worcestershire in January this year and will be part of their domestic season starting April.”I guess I wanted to go out on my own terms whilst feeling satisfied and happy,” said Wright, who picked up 375 wickets in 116 first-class games. Victoria’s final Sheffield Shield game of the season, against Queensland, was also his last. “When our match against Queensland finished, I realised it was my time and the right moment for me to go out. I’ve been really lucky to be a part of several titles and achieve what I have during my career; it’s been an amazing journey and a ride I’ve really enjoyed.”Wright said he was grateful to Greg Shipperd, his coach at Tasmania and Victoria, for his mentoring. “I’ve been very lucky to have Shippy as a coach throughout my career in both Tasmania and now in Victoria,” Wright said. “He’s provided me with many opportunities, he started my first-class career off and now ironically I’ll finish it under him. I’m extremely fortunate to have him as a mentor – he is someone who has played a huge role in my career and I thank him for that.”Apart from his skills as a pace bowler, Wright was also an effective batsman in the lower order. Journalist Andrew Dickson has revealed that the Nigeria international will miss the final of the Europa League if he is diagnosed with a concussion.

The midfielder came off injured in the first half on Thursday night after he was struck in the face by a powerful free-kick, with doubt now surrounding his availability in the coming weeks.

Dickson tweeted: “McGregor didn’t have much to do but made a crucial stop in the second half when he needed to, could do nothing about Nkunku’s glorious finish. Bassey’s now a fixture in front of him. And I hope Aribo is okay after a fair bang on the head. If it’s concussion, he misses Seville.”

The reporter has confirmed that Aribo would not be able to play in the showpiece clash in Spain, although it remains to be seen whether or not the 25-year-old was concussed.

Supporters will be gutted

Rangers supporters will surely be gutted by this claim, as it leaves a gigantic cloud of doubt over the Nigerian’s availability for the Europa League final later this month.

The midfielder has been a reliable option for Giovanni Van Bronckhorst to call upon in Europe, and the Dutch head coach will surely want him to be fit to face Eintracht Frankfurt on 18 May. Aribo has started 12 matches in this superb European run, playing 14 times in total, and has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 6.95 as he has chipped in with three assists.

In the Premiership, he has averaged a score of 7.09, scoring eight goals and providing five assists from midfield. He has proven that he can make a big impact in the final third with his ability on the ball, and that is why losing him for the Seville showdown would be a huge blow for the Gers.

Aribo is a consistently brilliant performer who has the potential to be a match-winner for Rangers with his contributions at the top end of the pitch, and fans will be concerned by a potential concussion to the 25-year-old, as losing his talent will weaken the squad given what he has been able to do on the pitch this season.

Hopefully he is healthy and enjoying the celebrations after the win over Leipzig, and if that is the case then the focus will turn to assess whether or not he will be able to play in the final. For now, though, the Ibrox faithful will be gutted by his knock and desperately hoping that he is cleared for action on Wednesday week.

The court said that these four needed to hold not less than 51% of the shares in KPH Dream Cricket Pvt. Ltd – the rights-holding company of the franchise – until the final judgement. Punjab’s owners refrained from commenting on the issue before they received the court order in hand tomorrow.In the interim, Punjab will have to submit various guarantees to the court and the BCCI. The first is clearing the pending payments to its players over the last two years, an amount running up to Rs.35 crore ($7.77 million). And now, since the franchise is free to re-enter the IPL arena, the court has asked it to commit an amount of $18 million for the next two years (at the rate of $9 million per year) as guarantee money for player payments in case the franchise participates in the league.”When they [Punjab] sign up players, their contracts are for two years,” CA Sundaram, BCCI’s lawyer in the case explained. “And in case they lose the arbitration the players’ contract must be honoured. Hence the bank guarantee for of $18 million which is two years’ contract money for players.”The other important condition the court asked Punjab to fulfill was to pay the BCCI $3.5 million per year for a period of two years, as security towards any damage incurred by the board in case the final verdict went against Punjab later on.”For the time being they have been permitted to participate but on very stringent conditions where they have to furnish various assurances and papers,” Sundaram said. “Importantly all these are only pending the final decision in the arbitration proceedings as an ad interim measure.”When asked whether BCCI had considered challenging the verdict in a higher court, Sundaram said the decision would be made when the order is in hand.Wednesday’s news will be seen as another blow to the IPL, whose 2011 tournament has been put increasingly at risk by a succession of court cases. While the Rajasthan and Punjab franchises were embroiled in courtroom battles, a third (Kochi) barely made it over the line. As a result of the controversies, the player auction for the season has been delayed by several months.In October the BCCI had terminated Punjab, holding the franchise guilty for violating the franchise agreement on three counts, the biggest offence being that the ownership had changed twice in the first three years of the league, something that went unreported to the Indian board.The franchise moved court last month seeking redressal for the cancellation of its IPL contract. Its petition contended that the termination was a “deliberate and calculated” move to ensure a new and more lucrative re-bidding process. Both parties then decided to opt for the arbitration process, but that too got embroiled in controversy when the arbitrator, Justice BN Srikrishna, recused himself after admitting to the BCCI that he had been legal counsel for the Wadia Group, part owners of Punjab, for many years.At that point the issue seemed to be snowballing into another protracted battle, just like the one Rajasthan Royals had got involved in with the BCCI. But Punjab rushed to the High Court for help and have now found new crutches to lean on before building their case in front of the arbitrator.The confusion over the eventual number of teams that will be involved next season affects every component of the world’s most lucrative domestic league: its teams/ franchises, its players and its very structure.
