Thanks to the fallout between the current BCCI regime and the Vidarbha Cricket Association, the home turf of former BCCI president Shashank Manohar, the BCCI Umpires Academy in Nagpur is on the cusp of ending up as a dormant facility.The academy that was established in 2010 with an objective to provide a wholesome training exercise for domestic umpires to raise their standards hasn’t seen any activity for almost a year. That, however, doesn’t mean the BCCI is ignoring the umpires’ wing.Over the last year, all the umpires’ activities have moved to the National Cricket Academy campus in Bangalore. In fact, the retired Simon Taufel, the most consistent international umpire over the last decade, will conduct a 15-day umpires’ workshop in Bangalore from Wednesday.The VCA officials and a few BCCI members admit that the sudden switch from Nagpur is following Manohar’s vocal dissent against N Srinivasan in the aftermath of last year’s IPL corruption scandal. The BCCI, however, has a different take.A BCCI insider revealed that moving umpires’ developmental activities from Nagpur to Bangalore is in line with the BCCI’s plan to bring all its specialist academies under the NCA umbrella. A BCCI office bearer seconded it but refused to speak on record since the proposal is “yet to be ratified by the working committee”.Despite the reorganisation of the academies, the feud between Manohar and N Srinivasan cannot be overlooked. Interestingly, the alternate venue of Bangalore makes the intra-BCCI political undercurrents even more visible. Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Brijesh Patel, a Srinivasan aide, is one of the aspirants for the BCCI secretary’s post in next month’s elections.Meanwhile, during its two-week umpiring seminar, the BCCI will conduct a crash course in verbal English communication for domestic umpires and match referees for the first time. The BCCI has noticed that lack of communicating properly with players and other officials has gone against Indian officials at the international level. As a result, Taufel has roped in British Council to improve basic English communication. The course is expected to be held over four to five sessions during the seminar.The BCCI is also in talks with British Council to conduct such crash courses frequently in order to bridge the gap between officials and the players.

IS Bindra, one of the senior most cricket administrators in India, is set to retire from his official duties. After heading the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for over three decades, Bindra is set to hand over the reins to DP Reddy.”I am happy I am withdrawing from the day-to-day running of the PCA affairs when my colleagues still want me to stay on,” Bindra told . “I have spent 37 years as PCA president and I will be leaving a satisfied man with absolutely no regrets. I don’t think you can come across such a lovable team to work with, and every Test, ODI or IPL game played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali was conducted with the same zeal and enthusiasm.”Bindra’s decision means the BCCI will be without one of the most vocal critics of the current regime. Bindra was at the forefront of the opposition to the manner in which the BCCI, headed by N Srinivasan, dealt with the IPL 2013 corruption scandal. However, his voice went virtually unheard as BCCI members felt he was opposing the measures due to his close association with former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who was suspended by the BCCI following various allegations of misconduct.Bindra, a former bureaucrat, also headed the BCCI for three years starting 1993-94. O Botafogo jeitou desse jeito durante os 15 primeiros minutos da etapa inicial, justamente o período da partida em que foi superior. Com tal formação, o time teve maior fluidez nas ideias e chegou mais rapidamente ao campo de ataque – o maior defeito que a equipe de Eduardo Barroca apresentou até aqui. Neste sentido, Alex Santana, responsável por levar a bola com velocidade entre os setores, se destacou.

– Com essa formação eu consigo mudar essa estrutura para um losango sem mexer peça. Com o Erik na frente consigo ter uma pressão no goleiro melhor. Sem o Diego na referência a gente perde no jogo de parede, mas ganha em ataque às costas. Num primeiro momento o Erik fez o pedido, mas depois a gente deu uma afrouxada nesse sentido. Eu preciso ter frieza e clarividência para tirar coisas boas que o jogo me ofereceu. Contra um adversário muito difícil, contra um treinador muito bom e que está há mais tempo no trabalho. A gente precisa voltar a vencer o mais rápido possível – analisou Eduardo Barroca.

O trabalho sem bola de Erik nessa formação também foi acima da média. Com a presença de Alex Santana e Luiz Fernando nos lados do campo, a pressão à saída de bola do Santos foi intensa e o camisa 11 se destacou neste sentido, incomodando a vida dos zagueiros do Peixe com a velocidade. Não à toa, dois dos três defensores santistas estavam amarelados com menos de 20 minutos.

Mesmo com o bom começo, Eduardo Barroca resolveu abrir mão da estrategia na metade da etapa inicial, colocando os jogadores em suas posições originais. Desta forma, o Botafogo viu o Santos melhorar na partida e terminar os 45 minutos iniciais aparecendo mais no campo de ataque.

Se a atuação, em termos gerais, não foi boa, a luz no fim do túnel para o Botafogo foram essas mudanças táticas. Recuado, Diego Souza melhorou o passe no meio-campo; Alex Santana teve espaço para correr e aproveitar os espaços vazios com sua velocidade e a rapidez de Erik foi eficiente na pressão na posse de bola adversária. Na entrada de uma semana decisiva, com jogos contra Atlético-MG e Flamengo, a formação pode voltar a ser utilizada.

O São Paulo vendeu, até a tarde desta sexta-feira, 26 mil ingressos para o primeiro jogo do Brasileirão após a Copa América, às 19h deste sábado, contra o Palmeiras, no Morumbi.

More importantly, Mohammed Shami, who missed the first innings with a mild calf strain, bowled with reasonable intensity for his 11-2-39-1.In the process, a trend was set. India got their hands on the prestigious Royal Crown Derby Trophy, which will now be played between Derbyshire and the touring Test side every year, or whenever the ECB grants the county a warm-up fixture. Shami would have assuaged some of the Indian fans’ concerns as he looked fit and in good rhythm. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, likely to be Shami’s new-ball partner next week, induced the edge from the first-innings half-centurion Ben Slater.Shami and Staurt Binny took the other two wickets to fall, but post lunch India did not use their first-choice bowlers, which assisted Derbyshire in setting a target big enough to give the batsmen a bit of a workout.In the chase, Indians lost Shikhar Dhawan early to one that stayed low, but Vijay batted attractively for his 53-ball 41 before retiring out. In this innings, the Indians decided to let Rahane and Rohit Sharma have a go. Rahane made the most of it, but Rohit fell as he gave left-arm spinner David Wainwright the charge and edged him through to first slip. Wriddhiman Saha and Gautam Gambhir, who did not get to bat in the first innings, saw the tourists through with 8.3 overs to spare.
