Nottingham Forest fans divided over Joe Worrall’s potentially cryptic tweet

It seems like a bit of a coincidence.

That’s no to say that there is anything behind it, but it just seems weird that Joe Worrall sent out this message, and that he chose to word it in this particular way.

Worrall has been paid a little bit more attention than he’s perhaps used to in recent days.

With stories surfacing that Newcastle United could be set to make a bid for him in the January transfer window, it’s led to some speculation about whether or not a move is actually feasible.

Perhaps in a bid to calm folks down over the whole affair, the 22-year-old, who’s a boyhood fan of the Reds, sent out a tweet saying that he was ‘lucky to be living the dream’.

And it led to a number of Nottingham Forest fans showing not only their appreciation for what he has done in the past, but that hopefully he’ll be able to keep up that level of passion, commitment and play on the pitch for a lot longer.

Here’s how a select bunch of Forest supporters reacted to what might be seen as a cryptic tweet.

Although, when he says ‘his last’, does that mean his time at the City Ground is coming to an end? I’ll let you decide if there’s some ‘hidden meaning’ in there somewhere. This guy seems to think so.

Exclusive: Pogba hasn’t been world class since re-signing for United, says John Hartson

[ad_pod ]

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, John Hartson has criticised Manchester United star Paul Pogba for failing to replicate his form with Juventus, at Old Trafford.

The France World Cup winner has endured a rocky time since making his return to United, and was the subject of intense transfer speculation earlier this summer.

A move to either Real Madrid or Juventus failed to materialise, however, and Hartson has now questioned Pogba’s level of consistency whilst playing for United.

He said: “Pogba’s hot and cold, isn’t he. He’s not playing at the minute but he’s hot and cold. I’ve not really seen him being world class like the Pogba I saw at Juventus a few years ago.

“I’ve not seen that side of him ever since he’s been at United to be honest.”

On his day, the 26-year-old can be a game-changing talent for the Red Devils – you need to look no further than his dynamic match-winning performance against Manchester City at the Etihad in April 2018. But unfortunately for United, those days are few and far in between.

There are those who still cling on to the belief the Frenchman can still be the leader of the team, and there are those who have simply had enough – his altercation with a section of the Old Trafford faithful last season said it all really.

When a big-money signing like Pogba generates such division amongst a fanbase, it tells you everything you need to know about whether he’s been a success or not.

At only 26, however, Pogba still has the peak years of his career ahead of him. If he can knuckle down and shut out the speculation that continues to follow him around, then there is no reason why he cannot be the main man at United.

Tottenham scout Benfica game, fans hope they were watching Alejandro Grimaldo

Tottenham’s scouting department have reportedly been very busy over the last few days, with some in attendance at Benfica’s match against Lyon in the Champions League.

A Bola report via Sport Witness that Spurs were in attendance at the game, and while no names are given as to who they might have been watching by the original report, Sport Witness suggest Houssem Aoaur of Lyon and Alejandro Grimaldo of Benfica could be of interest, with the latter in particular attracting interest from fans of the north London outfit.

Many should be aware of him as he has been linked to the club previously, going back to 2017 when he was reportedly being eyed as a potential Danny Rose replacement, so the club should have a good knowledge of what he can offer.

The England international has been in and out of the team a little this year, which hints that Mauricio Pochettino isn’t too happy with his options at left-back, and therefore Grimaldo could be a potential solution.

The 24-year-old may only have one assist in seven league games, but he has also helped to keep a clean sheet on five of those occasions, so could be what Spurs need to shore up the defence, albeit having played at a lower standard.

Some supporters are certainly encouraged by the news, and this is how they have been reacting.

Arsenal fans hail Eddie Nketiah’s two-goal international display

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah scored twice as England Under-21s recorded a 3-2 win over Turkey Under-21s on Friday night.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Leeds United from Arsenal, and he has scored three times in five appearances for the Whites this season.

Nketiah continued his impressive form for England’s Under-21s on Friday – netting a brace to help Aidy Boothroyd’s side pick up their first win since November.

As expected, a number of the Arsenal supporters took to social media to lavish praise on the attacker, with some calling for him to return to the Emirates Stadium.

Nketiah was involved in the club’s preparations for the 2019/20 campaign before being allowed to spend the year away from the Gunners on loan.

It might not be too long before the Lewisham-born ace is seen back at his parent club, though, especially if his recent scoring form continues.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola needs to convert Fernandinho into his new Mascherano

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

“I didn’t have doubts.”

After seeing him deliver a stellar performance in an unfamiliar role against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola lauded Fernandinho’s ability to adapt. Manchester City’s injury crisis has left them desperately short of options at centre-back, and the Brazilian was thrust into the deep end in the Champions League.

Speaking after the Citizens’ resounding 3-0 victory in Ukraine, Guardiola pointed to the holding midfielder’s “intelligence” as the main reason behind why he looked so comfortable in the heart of defence.

“That’s why he is so important for us. We don’t have many choices. I think he is the only one I have (at centre-back). Other players can play in that position but Fernandinho is a clever player and so intelligent – an incredible guy.  Of course he has a lot of experience and personality, and what he says the people follow him in the locker room so it’s important.”

And when looking at the numbers behind his performance against his former club, it is clear to see why the Brazilian was singled out for praise by his manager.

As is to be expected with having a midfielder by trade dropping into centre-back, the passing numbers were very impressive. The 34-year-old looked understandably at ease with the ball at his feet, but he also proved he can read the game particularly well too. The Brazilian registered two interceptions over the course of the game, whilst his 5 foot 9 stature didn’t seem to matter much as he won three aerial duels too.

And that second stat is perhaps what Guardiola should be most intrigued about. The stereotypical centre-back is a 6 foot plus beast who barges and bullies opposition players off the ball and hoofs it into row Z. But just like he did with Javier Mascherano in his time at Barcelona, it could be the perfect time for the City boss to fully convert Fernandinho into a central defender.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

The former belied his physical flaws with an exceptional reading of the game, with former Blaugrana teammates like Gerard Pique and Dani Alves hailing his “intelligence”. Sound familiar?

Fernandinho’s equally masterful ability to break down opposition attacks by simply being in the right place at the right time – last season he averaged 2 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game in the Premier League – shows he can be the latest Guardiola tactical masterpiece.

If the Spaniard can succeed in his project of converting the Brazil international into a bona-fide centre-back like Mascherano, City may well have an in-house solution to all their defensive worries.

Wolves fans blast Morgan Gibbs-White after poor performance

[ad_pod ]

Wolves looked out of sorts as they played a third game in just a week but thanks to a late, late penalty from Raul Jimenez they were able to salvage a point on their own patch, Molineux.

Burnley’s Ashley Barnes opened the scoring in the 13th minute with an audacious strike from long-range, beating the fingertips of Rui Patricio.

Nuno Santo’s men looked well off the mark after playing Manchester United on Monday and then a trip to Torino on Thursday, but they managed to keep their unbeaten run going in the Premier League.

The video assistant referee granted the home side a spot-kick in the 97th minute which allowed Jimenez to step up and calmly slot home to make it three draws from three.

The Portuguese boss made five changes to his starting lineup, one of which was handing a start to Morgan Gibbs-White, who only scored his first career goal for the club just two weeks ago.

The 5 foot 10 midfielder’s performance in the match has drawn plenty of criticism on social media.

A number of fans believe the 19-year-old isn’t up to the standards of the Premier League with one going as far as saying he is a Championship player who is a liability in the top-flight.

Another supporter claimed that Gibbs-White makes Zeli Ismail seem underhyped – a former academy graduate now playing for Bradford City in League Two whilst a further member of the Molineux crowd labelled him bang average.

Here’s some more of the reaction:

Leeds fans rave over Ben White following individual award

[ad_pod ]Leeds fans have seemingly taken to Ben White as though he was one of their own. The defender earned plaudits after his performance against Stoke a few weeks ago but now they’ve been left drooling over him again. The 21-year-old’s impressive start to life at Elland Road was capped off by winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for August, an accolade that Patrick Bamford was also nominated for.

White has looked imperious at the back since joining Marcelo Bielsa’s side and Leeds supporters have been left delighted with the news, sharing their views on the centre-back.

One labelled him a class act whilst a further fan suggested his market value had increased to as much as £85m so far this season.

Another supporter said the award was well deserved with one member of the Elland Road faithful saying he’d been superb.

White has taken to the Championship like a duck to water, winning 2.8 aerial duels per match during his time at Leeds so far. As well as that, he’s won 2.5 tackles and 4.2 interceptions per game according to WhoScored.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Georgia Elwiss gets Blaze home after Maddy Green 97 sets up chase

Somerset unable to defend 305 after fifties from Sophie Luff and Rebecca Odgers

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay20-May-2025Allrounder Georgia Elwiss defied the pain from an injured hand in a match-winning unbeaten 75 as The Blaze beat Somerset Women by four wickets with an over to spare at the Haslegrave Ground in Loughborough to record a fifth victory of their Metro Bank One-Day Cup season.Visiting skipper Sophie Luff struck 72 from 76 balls, backed up by a half-century from opener Rebecca Odgers and a swashbuckling 25-ball 48 from Australian allrounder Amanda-Jade Wellington as Somerset set their Trent Bridge-based opponents a tough challenge by posting 304 for 7 in their 50 overs.New Zealand batter Maddy Green hit 12 boundaries in a 90-ball 97 as The Blaze responded, sharing a 125-run second-wicket stand with Kathryn Bryce, but after her side had slipped to 238 for 6, 33-year-old Elwiss brought all her experience into play as she and skipper Kirstie Gordon shared an unbroken 67-run partnership to clinch victory.Elwiss, who hit eight fours and faced 68 balls, batted despite suffering an injury fielding off her own bowling and spending the last 19 overs of the Somerset innings off the field receiving treatment.Olivia Barnes, an 18-year-old left-arm spinner, took 2 for 49 on her Somerset debut.Odgers and opening partner Emma Corney put on 88 for the first wicket as Somerset’s innings got off to a flying start. They were not parted until the the 17th overs, when Odgers was unlucky to be run out after Corney changed her mind over a single. It was the 22-year-old’s second fifty in two innings in Somerset colours, making a good impression again after her 60 against Durham earlier in the month.Legspinner Josie Groves was expensive but picked up an important wicket when Corney was stumped. Elwiss was rewarded for an excellent spell by having Fran Wilson (28) caught at mid-off from a slower ball before her injury.Grace Ballinger castled Katie Jones for 8 but skipper Luff was the fulcrum for Somerset, the 69 added with Alex Griffiths in 11 overs for the fifth wicket giving Somerset a platform to attack.Griffiths was bowled when she missed a slog-sweep and Luff was caught at short fine leg, having hit seven fours and a six. But then came a blitz of hitting by Wellington, seven of whose nine boundaries before she was run out off the final ball came in Ballinger’s last three overs, which cost 37 runs. The Blaze struggled for early momentum in response, Georgie Boyce running herself out looking for a single that Green understandably declined. But once Green and Kathryn Bryce found their range in the last three overs of the powerplay, turning 19 for 1 from seven into 50 for 1 from 10, Somerset suffered until Barnes, the former Kent left-arm spinner, claimed her maiden wicket for her new county as Bryce was bowled attempting to sweep. The partnership had added 125 in 18.4 overs, Bryce’s fourth half-century of the competition having come off 47 balls with eight fours, Green’s first for The Blaze also containing eight fours off 51.Now the momentum shifted back to Somerset. A tidy spell from seamer Griffiths was rewarded when Sarah Bryce, whom she had dropped on 2 in her follow-through, was bowled behind her legs, and though Green and Elwiss, at times in obvious pain from her injury, added another 47 for the fourth wicket, Somerset achieved the breakthrough they had been looking for when Green – in touching distance of a fifth List A hundred in this calendar year – was bowled by the returning Ellie Anderson. The loss in the next over of Ella Claridge, whose top-edged sweep gave Barnes a second wicket, left The Blaze 203 for 5 in the 36th, still 102 short of their target, Wellington striking a further blow when the legspinner removed Michaela Kirk leg before. But despite her discomfort, Elwiss took the responsibility for seeing her side over the line, a superbly judged innings giving her a third half-century in Blaze colours as she and skipper Kirstie Gordon completed the job.

Manchester United’s summer signing Daniel James has "set the standard", says Solskjaer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Manchester United’s summer signing Daniel James has “set the standard” with his hard work.

What did he say?

The Wales international arrived at Old Trafford earlier this summer in a £15m deal from Championship side Swansea, and opened his account for the Red Devils with a strike in the 4-0 win over Chelsea.

Now, Solskjaer has hailed the impact James has had on his team so far, and insisted his hard work on the training pitch has been there for all to see.

He said: “You could see it meant the world to him. He’s had a summer of mixed emotions and experiences. You could see the way he celebrated, he’s been wanting that. I know for a fact after talking to him that it meant a lot for him.

“Since Daniel came in, he has proved to everyone that he is the type of player we want. He’s so hard-working. I think he set the standard straight away. On his first day, he made a recovery run that was a fifty-yard run. He won the ball, played it out to a team-mate, ran forward, had a chance blocked, won it back and within 10 seconds had scored. Everyone was saying, ‘Yeah, that’s the boy we want in our team’.

Laying a marker down

Amidst all the embarrassing talk this summer about players downing tools and agitating for moves away across the Premier League, isn’t it refreshing to see a multi-million pound player simply getting their head down and working hard?

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

The likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, amongst others, have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks and months. Seeing a relatively unproven 21-year-old knuckle down and give 110% for his club puts those more illustrious stars to shame.

If James’ tenacity and energy rubs off on the rest of the squad, then United will be a much-changed team from what they were last season.

  • Difficult to redevelop Stamford Bridge
  • Considering move to new site
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Blues have held talks with Transport for London and real estate developers Delancey over a potential move to a site at Earl's Court, according to . The club are determined to increase their home capacity from 42,000 but have been unable to make progress in developing their Stamford Bridge home. That has led Chelsea to look for a fresh site and draw up plans for a new stadium. It's estimated that the site at Earl's Court would set Chelsea back around £500 million ($653m).

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea face difficulties redeveloping Stamford Bridge due to the stadium's location next to a tube line. A move away from the famous ground is therefore an alternative option but also fraught with complications. The freehold of Stamford Bridge is held by Chelsea Pitch Owners and the company could potentially block any move away. Chelsea also face a potential obstacle in the shape of the Earl’s Court Development Committee (ECDC) which wants to build a development and has no plans to include a stadium.

The ECDC released the following the statement on Tuesday. "There is no plan within our plans for Chelsea FC to relocate to the Earl's Court site. We have a fully detailed design, shortly to be registered with both local authorities, which prioritises the delivery of thousands of homes and jobs, culture and open space through a well-designed and considered masterplan which has evolved over four years of engagement."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Chelsea's plans for a new ground may also be complicated by a current power struggle between owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. The two parties are eager to buy each other out, with Boehly searching for a quick resolution to the current civil war.
